I totally agree that setting goals is essential. In our personal lives, they probably help us focus our needs or desires. At school this is basic. We shouldn’t be able to start planning a lesson without setting the intention for that lesson; however this is not always like this, in many occasions teachers think of a task they like, a topic, and their goals are set incidentally... I do like the comparison you make with travelling and learning! It is like that! It is impossible to move efficiently in such a blurry situation! Sharing the final destination helps a lot, but it is not only that. It is very important that once your sts reach the place you want them to reach, you can congratulate to them if they have done a good job, if they did not succeed we have to tell them where they got confuse , where and why they lost the way. It is only by being explicit on where they are and how they have to do to reach the goal, that they will be able to improve. If they do not have clear directions...it will be much more difficult. Could you experience this? Have you shared results and have you been able to tell them what they need to improve? How can you implement it in the daily classroom? vivi
